60 years since the Düsseldorf Dragons Rugby Club exists. A good reason for us to celebrate and celebrate they did on Saturday 5th September.
It started in the morning with the Dragons Challenge, a fun competition involving four teams including our young players and their siblings, parents and senior players. The four teams faced each other in various missions that involved strength, speed, agility, some thinking and team work. All teams competed actively and appeared to have a lot of fun doing so.
The day continued with the award ceremony during which last season's best players were celebrated followed by a buffet for all to enjoy.
In the beginning of the afternoon, the most senior generation of players, including some ex Dragons who visited specially for this event, enjoyed a game of touch rugby, a great chance to play with minimum risks of injuries 😉.
It was followed by a game of rugby opposing the Düsseldorf Dragons to the Düsseldorf Japanese Rugby Football Club and their friends (some rugby players coming from England, Netherlands and France). The game was very competitive and the Japanese players gave a hard time to the Dragons with their fast playing style, keeping the ball constantly in movement. The Dragons managed to score some points too, but could not manage to take the lead. The end result, a win for the Japanese players with a score of 53 to 35. The game was anyhow a great opportunity for the Dragons to prepare their season and for the teams of trainers to try various players combinations.
After the game, the celebration continued with a second buffet were all could enjoy some really nice Japanese food and pizzas prepared by our Japanese friends from Düsseldorf.
The party continued with a raffle draw and a quiz for all participants to get a chance to win one of the many prizes including some vouchers from our sponsors the McLaughlins Irish pub and the pub Julio as well as tickets for the international game Germany vs Denmark given by the president of Rugby Deutschland, Helmut Wallrafen, who honoured us with his visit.
The party was then moved in the Düsseldorf old town, in the McLaughlins Irish pub for an epic Karaoke session, and continued with a tour of some famous places.
We would like to thank all the persons who have supported the organisation of this very successful event, all our sponsors for the very generous gifts as well as Rugby Deutchland and its president for the visit and the tickets.
We also thank all the persons who visited the event or sent congratulations messages, particularly all the ex Dragons who sent some memories about their times in the club. It is always nice to hear about the past of the club and what took it to what it is now.
We hope all participants enjoyed and we are looking forward to the next jubilee to celebrate.
