Very successful weekend for the Dragons
Our women's team wins the 7s Rugby Autmn cup tournament in Marburg.
While the NRW region enjoyed a quiet day on Saturday, our women's team travelled to Marburg to compete in the Autumn Cup. 14 players made the trip, allowing the team' coach "Max" to select the best players for each of the three games the team had to play.
A strong defence in the first game, conceding no tries and the well organised attack moves allowed the Düsseldorf players to win their first game against Kaiserbrücken with a score of 24-0. In the second game, the opponent team Marburg managed to cross the Düsseldorf's try line only once when our ladies scored a total of 22 points, bringing a second win. Lastly, with SG BiBo, a rather physical and exhausting game was waiting for the Dragons. But all good things are known to come in three and so the Düsseldorf women also won this game with 17 points to 10.
With these three wins, the Düsseldorf Dragons women's team won the tournament and showed that team and hard work allows to achieve great results! Congratulations to the entire team and the coach for this performance and thank you to the team's fan club who supports them. As a sign of their unity, the all team was nominated Dragons of the Day.
While the women's team were playing in Marburg, our U18 players involved in the joined team with the RC Aachen and RSV Köln also had a game in Aachen. Congratulations to our U18 players who also brought a strong win with 40 points to 10 against the CL Oysters/REL/BRC CO 1.
The week-end continued on Sunday with the U8, U10 and U12 children rugby tournament hosted in Düsseldorf. A total of 105 players from Aachen, Köln, Bonn, Munster and Düsseldorf participated in the tournament. The unexpected great weather conditions allowed all the players to compete hard and fair on the pitch.
Congratulations to our U8 and U12 teams who both won the tournament in their respective category. Both teams were involved in a three-team competition and managed to win both games they had to play. Our U10 team finished at the third place in a four-team competition with one win, one draw and one loss. Well done to all the Dragons for these great teams performances.
Thanks to the support of many parents and senior players, supporters and young players could take advantage of the Dragons hospitality and fully enjoy this day of rugby. A big thank you to all who made this day possible and who contributed to its success.
