NRW Tackle-Corona Cup 2020

News_30_-_Intro

Our first Game Day finally arrived with a double-header against RSV Köln II and GRC Grashof Essen at home in Düsseldorf.

With the pitch in perfect Rugby playing condition and the hygiene protocol and relevant measures in place, we were able to welcome players and spectators into the clubhouse for the 10s Rugby Social Cup.

Each game was played in three 20-minute parts, with our first Team, aka Dwägons, going head to head against RSV Köln II. In the first third both teams were very even, with both sides scoring Try after Try with some beautiful Rugby played by all. During the second and last third, the Dwägons managed to win the game by working extremely well in defence to and advancing to score more tries. With a well-deserved score of 41:29, the Dwägons have had a great start to the 10s Rugby Season.

Our second Team, aka Fireballs, had less success this weekend. With a final score of 0:54, you could say GRC Grashof Essen did not have an opposition. But that would not be true. Initially, it took some time for the Fireballs to get into the game, Essen realised this and used this to their advantage to get a head start. In the second third, the Fireballs woke up and gave Essen a very strong opposition and denying them the chance to score again. Impatience leading to small mistakes, which was the main reason why the Fireballs did not score when given the chance. In the third and last 20 minutes, both teams were equal and fought hard, which made a good watch for the spectators. GRC Grashof Essen took over with a solid win, congratulations – we look forward to our next game against them.

Congratulations to all players of both teams who made the Düsseldorf Dragons proud and showed that coming to play in Düsseldorf will not be easy for the visiting teams this season.

Thank you also to our resident photographers Gabriel Boia and Werner Thorenz who were both very active and took some great shots of the action. Visit our Gallery for more photos.
