12th September 2021 - the long wait was finally over.
The first matchday of the 21/22 season in the Regionalliga Nordrhein-Westfalen. This year's league looks a little different than usual. 7 teams from Cologne to Paderborn will be taking part, so all of North Rhine-Westphalia. It's going to be really exciting.

In almost perfect conditions, the Dragons hosted the SG Solingen/Hürth, also known as "The Zebras". The game preparation took place highly motivated and focused under the guidance of our new assistant coach Luis and team captain Toto. It's been almost 2 years since the lastseason where the Dragons were allowed to play 15-a-side rugby. The tension and joy could be clearly felt by everyone on and off the pitch.

An exciting and balanced game in most situations, which were increased in dynamics due to small mistakes made by both teams. Within the first 20 minutes, the zebras were able to take advantage of the referee's decisions and claim the lead 0:9. The Zebras then used the momentum and started scoring tries. The Dragons were not phased by it, and were able to hit back and found their way back into the game. With tries scored by René, Gabriel and Marco and the conversions by Gabriel, the Dragon sadly couldn't turn the game around. The final score was 21:36 for the zebras.

Not the start of the season the dragons had hoped for but we took home plenty of lessons that will be crucial for our next match against Bochum this Saturday. We would like to thank the SG Solingen/Hürth for the fair and tough game and the referee Matt Newman for his commitment in ensuring a fair and safe game for all.
We look forward to the second half of the season.
