U12 Dragons at the 2023 Rugby German Championship

Over the weekend of the 13-14th May the U12 Dragons took part in the 2023 Deutsche Meisterschaft in Heusenstamm, located just south of Frankfurt.

The squad of 14 U12 players, including two borrowed from the U10 group, were led by coach Olivier Mathieu and accompanied by parent helpers as well as parent supporters.

Twelve of the best teams in Germany took part in the tournament. They were split into three groups of four, with the group games on Saturday and the playoffs on Sunday.

Many of the U12 Dragons were relatively new to the team and it was always going to be a tough tournament against such well established teams such as Frankfurt, Berlin and Heidelberg.

In the end the team had fun, battled valiantly, scored some hard-fought tries and grew enormously both in confidence and experience over the five matches, but ultimately had to accept that in 2023 they are the twelfth best team in Germany!
